On a recent school trip I decided to kill time by catching the ‘coasters on an 1/8th and 1/10th of a second. I ended up with a few OK shots despite no tripod and poor weather.

Namir runs today at Beverley

Namir heads back to one of his old stamping grounds on Tuesday afternoon as he runs at Beverley. He won Class 4 Handicaps over this course and distance in 2007 and 2008. It’s not always been a bed of roses though at Beverley as he has run some puzzlingly disappointing races here too. The fact remains though that he is a course and distance winner and if in the mood he clearly goes well here.

“He’s fit and well at the moment.” His trainer, James Evans, told the owners. “I think we perhaps overdid it a little bit last month when we raced him three times in 15 days. He had a short break after that just to freshen him up and obviously didn’t need a lot of work to be done to get him ready to come here.”

“Namir really should be getting competitive in this sort of race. He ran well recently at Pontefract, a course we know he likes and so hopefully coming back here will get him to put his best foot forward. He’s shown us in a couple of runs that he should still have this sort of race within his grasp so we are hoping for a decent effort from him.”

“John Fahy has been booked for the ride. He’s riding in great form and takes a very handy five pounds of his back. He rode one for us a few weeks back and gave it an excellent ride and I’ve been watching him and he’s looks a very good jockey.”

The race is due off at 4-30.

I decided to cycle to work this week along the former GWR Wombourne branch line. The only ‘traffic’ is the occasional dog walker.

Namir runs today but he won’t win because of the luck I’m having

One of our horses, Namir, runs in the 6.50 at Chepstow today. It’s a 6 furlong sprint, but he’s best over 5. He is on a losing run. Only a mad man would back him, but I will anyway.

Namir is a new horse in the Ridgway Stable. His ‘share’ was offered as a sweetner, free of charge, due to the problems with our no.1 horse, Friendship Bay. I would not have bought into him had I had the choice as I’m not a fan of flat turf racing and I’ve had interests in disappointing sprinters in the past. But, you never know, he might actually win today. Or not.

The light and the weather were a problem this year, especially as it got worse as the afternoon went on. I ended up photographing the Harrier in torrential rain! Never the less I think I got a few good shots.
